Absences
If an absence is unplanned due
to illness or emergency, it is considered excused.
The student will find a packet of work on his or her desk when he or she arrives
back at school. It is the student's job to seek help if he or she is confused
by the work or directions. The student should:
1. Ask a fellow student for
notes or explanations of concepts.
2. Ask me before or after
school.
It is the student's responsibility
to make up all missed work. The student has the same amount of time to make it
up as he or she was absent. If the student feels unable to make it up in the
allotted time, please see me for an extension. If a sickness or absence extends
for multiple days, consider picking up make up work.
If an absence is planned or unexcused, please try to let me know
ahead of time. This way, if possible, I can give make-up work ahead of time.
When a student is gone for unexcused absences, I will leave work on desk. If a
student and his or her family make the choice to miss school for unexcused
reasons, the student is responsible for making up the work without my outside
help. The student will not get credit for small exams that were missed, and it
is his or her responsibility to schedule a make-up time for larger exams. Taking
off school time for personal reasons is a choice that has natural consequences which
the student must attend to. Please remember, though, that your student's academic
success and our school’s budget depends on students being in their seats.
For planned absences five days
or longer, please let me know at least two weeks in advance of your trip so I
can plan an Independent Study for
your student. This will allow your student to make-up all work without
impacting their grades. It will require a signature from you.
